I love television, and am hopelessly addicted to it. It’s been this way for a long time. Sitcoms, procedurals, sci-fi, dramas, it’s all good. I’ve even been known to delve into the darkness that is VH1 reality. Regardless, it’s Monday so this is how things normally progress.
At around 8:00pm the tv goes on and my brain rots, not to say that it isn’t on before then tuned to NCIS reruns, but if I’m busy I’ll hold off until 8.
8:00 PM
How I Met Your Mother - I liked this show a lot more early on, but at this point it’s routine so I’m snagged and there’s no turning back. I mean, the story is ok, but this show stopped being based on plot a long time ago (if ever). I started watching it for a few reasons; Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan, and NPH. I keep watching it for the same reasons.
8:30
Rules of Engagement - Another stupid sitcom, but this time with David Spade, Patrick Warburton, and the mom from Grounded for Life. I just started watching this show a month or two ago and it has yet to really grab. Don’t get me wrong, this is a solid sitcom; occasionally clever, wrapped up in 30 mins, and patrick fucking warburton, but I don’t make a point to watch it if I miss it.
9:00
Dancing with the Stars - This is my void. There is nothing to watch, so I satiate myself by flipping to Dancing with the Stars. I could be watching Two and a Half Men but that series is coming to a close and it never really piqued my interest. The kid went from cute, to awkward, to sorta funny, which is really all I remember in terms of the show’s progression. Dancing With the Stars, however, is where my clicker leads me. I think it’s OchoCinco, I’m just drawn to him I suppose.
9:30
Big Bang Theory - A show where all the characters reference things that I know. That’s really it. Just geeky reference after geeky reference featuring guy from Roseanne, guy from Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and girl from 8 Simple Rules for Dating my Teenage Daughter. Also, Jim Parsons is fantastic. I went to a restaurant for dinner one night with Meredith and near us was a group of folks talking excitedly in Japanese. I couldn’t make anything out beyond the occasional “big bang theory” and “jim parsons” but they all seemed to love that show. Cultural barrier broken, boosh, thank you television.
10:00
Castle - My new favorite crime drama. I blew through the first and what I hadn’t seen of the second season in no time. How can you go wrong with Nathan Fillion. With a resume like Two Guys a Girl and a Pizza Place, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-long Blog, and Firefly I knew that it was only a matter of time before I got pulled in, and boosh, end of season 2, here I am.
After 11 it’s anything goes, but this is the Monday I look forward to. It’s the kind of schedule that makes me hate the summer rerun slum. (Not too much mind you. Burn notice, white collar, and psych are coming back. Woo!)
